The United States government through the economic stimulus and Recovery Act has allotted nearly $300,000,000 to be used as appliance rebates and to be paid to citizens who make energy efficient Energy Star compliant appliance purchases.

While these are without a doubt enticing incentives, the fact is that there are numerous ongoing bargains on new appliances. Consider not only the immediate savings you will find on energy efficient appliances, look at the long term savings potential you can achieve through the implementation of energy efficient appliances.

History was made:

Kitchen Appliance Rebate

In the beginning the economic stimulus plan was signed into law in 2009 and the efforts have resulted in numerous cash incentives for consumers who purchase energy saving products. The initiatives are designed to benefit consumers in the near and long term.

Energy Star qualified appliances which are eligible for rebates include refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, clothes washers, water heaters, room air conditioners, central air conditioners, heat pumps, boilers, and furnaces.

Unlike the Cash for Clunkers program which required that there be a trade in of an old vehicle, the appliance rebate does NOT require any trade in what so ever.

The rebates are issued as an incentive and an enticement for consumers to purchase new energy efficient appliances which reduce monthly fuel bills and hopefully stimulate the economy.

Stimulus Rebate Eligible Appliances:

  • Refrigerators
  • Freezers
  • Dishwashers
  • Water Heaters
  • Clothes Washers
  • Room Air Conditioners
  • Central Air Conditioners
  • Heat Pumps
  • Boilers
  • Furnaces

The efforts include the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 known simply as the Recovery Act which was signed into law in early 2009 and is designed to stimulate the growth of the modernization of the nation’s infrastructure.

This in essence will help to make it easier for American citizens to purchase new Energy Star compliant appliances. The various states are able to choose exactly which appliances are eligible for the rebates in essence making their own programs and amount of rebate given for the various Energy Star qualified appliances.

With this flexibility the Department of Energy has recommended states focus on including heating and cooling related appliances as well as hot water heaters. The reason for this is because the appliances have the ability to potentially make significant savings in heating and cooling bills for the owners of the appliances and potentially save a significant amount of energy as well.

Many consumers find themselves with the opportunity to take advantage unexpected appliance deals which are often a bright spot under not so great circumstances. When the appliances are delivered there are occasionally surprises which lead to these situations. The household appliance industry is a very big business so percentage wise things run as planned but it never hurts to be prepared for the unexpected.
